Pete Davies is an independent British singer-songwriter whose music blends the melodic character of 60s pop with the energy and attitude of British indie rock. Drawing inspiration from artists such as The Who, The Kinks, The Jam, The Beatles and Squeeze, his songs combine memorable melodies with observations drawn from a life lived well beyond the world of music.
Pete's journey as a musician began when he picked up a guitar at 14. In the 1980s, he became involved with electronic music including Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello) and Robin Scott (M, Pop Musik) and experimenting with Moog synthesizers. His early work as Goo-Q included the track "I'm a Computer", originally recorded in 1980 and later featured on Cherry Red Records' compilation Musik, Music, Musique and Night Schools All the Young Droids.
Alongside his music, Pete spent 35 years working as a commercial diver in the North Sea, a career that took him into an environment few people ever experience. He finished diving in 2016, but the experiences, characters and stories accumulated during those years continue to influence his songwriting.
Today, Pete Davies brings together those very different worlds — the raw realities of a working life beneath the North Sea and his lifelong passion for British guitar music and songwriting. His songs can be personal, humorous, reflective and sometimes irreverent, but always rooted in real experience.
With a growing catalogue of releases on streaming platforms, Pete continues to write, record and release new music independently. His current work embraces the melodic spirit of British pop and indie rock while retaining the experimental streak that has been part of his music since the early days of Goo-Q.
For Pete Davies, songwriting is ultimately about telling stories, capturing moments and making sense of the world — one song at a time.
